With the introduction of AlwaysOn Availability groups in SQL Server 2012, Microsoft has announced that Database Mirroring will be removed in later versions of SQL Server.

Since SQL Server 2005, Database mirroring has proven to be a stable solution for HA but with the introduction of AlwaysOn Availability Group it did not make much sense to have two very similar features for long term.

But before we push the panic button we need to know that database mirroring will be there for atleast two major versions of SQL Server so we have time to plan out HA strategy again.

Before implementing database mirroring for any new projects it won’t be a bad idea to try the new AlwaysOn Availability Group feature of SQL Server 2012.
