As DBAs, we should be aware of the fact that SSAS databases can and should be backed up regularly. It is actually very easy task and can be done by using either GUI or XMLA. We can schedule the regular jobs to take the backups.

Below I am giving the backup and restore scripts for SSAS databases:

<Backup xmlns=”http://schemas.microsoft.com/analysisservices/2003/engine>
<Object>
<DatabaseID>TestDataWareHouse</DatabaseID>
</Object>
<File>c:\bak\TestDataWareHouse.abf</File>
</Backup>

<Restore xmlns=”http://schemas.microsoft.com/analysisservices/2003/engine>
<File>c:\share\TestDataWareHouse.abf</File>
<DatabaseName>TestData</DatabaseName>
<DbStorageLocation xmlns=”http://schemas.microsoft.com/analysisservices/2008/engine/100/100>C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSAS10.MSSQLSERVER\OLAP\Data\ </DbStorageLocation>
</Restore>

Cheers,
